Love & Sex

We prefer not to listen to this music genre during sex

Playing music during sex: I don't really need that. I already get restless at the thought of having to combine these two things, as I get distracted quite easily and often find music disruptive. Of course, I've tried it often enough, but I can't say that it really works for me. I might want to give a nice calm track another chance, but a R&B playlist on Spotify won't make me happy.

On the other hand, there are plenty of people (less easily distracted than I am) who do enjoy listening to music during sex and actually get more in the mood because of it. But what kind of music do these people like to listen to? Musical tastes usually differ enormously, but I just can't imagine that there are people who listen to dubstep while making love. Or maybe I just don't want to imagine that, that could be it too.
Research from 100%NL shows that there is at least one specific genre that hardly pleases anyone between the sheets. You might not be surprised, but Dutch-language music in the bedroom is not a resounding success. The study involved a thousand adults, of whom nearly 90 percent indicated that they enjoy Dutch music, but only 3 percent play it during sex. It is not mentioned why this is the case, but we can all fill that in ourselves, right? It seems like a total nightmare to have to have sex to André Hazes or Acda en De Munnik, not to mention Marco Borsato.

What do people prefer to listen to? R&B and Pop. This was of course to be expected, as many songs from these genres are about sex and are filled with sensual beats. That ultimately works a bit better than ‘Het regent zonnestralen’ or ‘Harder dan ik hebben kan.’
