Science says: you better not wear this on a first date

Of course you want to look your best on a first date. Preferably not too over the top, but also not like a slob. Most of the time, you end up with an outfit that looks casual but is actually thought out in detail. Apparently, this well-thought-out preparation is very necessary, as research shows that 38 percent of people do not want a second date when the other person does not show up in the ‘right’ clothing on the first date. This information came from a study conducted by style experts at the online platform Thread.

During this study, respondents were also asked what clothing they really dislike on a first date. Here is a list that I believe I can partly agree with. Here are the top ten items that absolutely did not appeal to the respondents and that you should avoid on your first date according to this research.

1. Matching tracksuits (31%)

I can understand this, a tracksuit would not be the first thing I would pull out of my closet for a date. I hope that after the third date it is simply allowed again.

2. Crocs (31%)

This is also understandable, although I am not a real Crocs hater like many. I actually find them quite funny, but I would definitely skip them for a date.

3. Transparent plastic shoes (27%)

I believe this is an item I would never purchase anyway.

4. MC Hammer pants (27%)

This refers to those large baggy military-style pants with a low crotch and pockets on the side. I must say I am not a fan of these pants, so I completely agree with this.

5. Mini shorts (23%)

Everyone should do what feels good, but personally, I would not feel comfortable wearing an ultra-short pair of shorts on a first date.

6. Biker shorts (23%)

The last thing I would wear on a date is biker shorts. This item is really more suitable for a Pilates class. Or just to leave in your closet.

7. Overalls (23%)

In other words: dungarees. I love dungarees, so I absolutely disagree with this. Dungarees can actually be very sexy.

8. Sneakers with a heel (22%)

Aren't they just out of style anyway?

9. Ripped jeans (20%)

For this, I feel the same as for number 8: just don't do it.

10. Uggs (20%)

Great for walking the dog, but that's about all that can be said.
