INGREDIENTS

– 200 g beef steak
– 2 tbsp mayonnaise
– 1 tsp smooth sharp mustard
– 1½ tsp sweet paprika powder, Worcestershire sauce to taste
tabasco, to taste
– salt and pepper

Janneke: ‘The idea of mixing finely chopped or ground raw beef with a mayonnaise-like sauce, we borrowed from the Belgians. But while our southern neighbors always serve their filet préparé with fries, our filet Americain is a sandwich spread. It is very tasty and easy to make yourself. The only downside is that you will never want anything else than homemade filet Americain after this.’

This is how you make the filet Americain

1. Chop the beef steak finely with a sharp knife. Put the chopped meat in a bowl.
2. Add the mayonnaise, mustard, and paprika powder and mix. Further season the filet Americain with Worcestershire sauce, tabasco, and pepper.
3. Eat the filet Americain immediately or store it in the refrigerator for a maximum of 24 hours.
