Preview Piece of My Heart

I actually never go to a press screening because I don't give myself the time for it, but when Bracha van Doesburgh asks, not only one of the best actresses in the country but also a dear friend, you just say yes. So there I was, just on a Tuesday afternoon in Amsterdam-Noord serially sniffling. Piece of My Heart, that's the name of the film, tells the story of Olga de Haas, once one of the best dancers in our country, and her struggle with alcohol, drugs, and dieting. Or perhaps better said: with life.
As a ballet addict, I might have been an easy audience, but the film is so much more than the stage and the ballet studios. It is friendship, accepting your place, pain, and above all a wonderful marriage between the shiny world of opera and the hippy-ish seventies in Amsterdam.
It won't be in theaters until December 1, but since I am a bit of a missionary when it comes to spreading the word about things you need to see, I want to share the trailer with you now. The choreography (done by Igone de Jongh and a scene by Timor Steffens), the scene with Tina de Bruin (she doesn't say a word, but immediately makes you cry), the two young ballerinas Roos Englebert and Elaine Meijerink who seem to have been created for the lead roles, and the supporting role for vodka Stolichnaya. You want to see this.
