Here you found the very first Christmas market of the year

Christmas market in Hellevoetsluis

Yeah guys, I know: it's August. The pepernoten aren't even in the supermarkets yet and then you know it's really still a long way from December, but there are people for whom it can be Christmas all year round. Of course, you can sing along to All I Want For Christmas by Mariah Carey at the Amsterdam Cooldown or Bubbels all year round, but I can imagine you don't always want to do that. In Hellevoetsluis, they thought differently. There you could already get a taste of the Christmas atmosphere yesterday.

Yesterday there was a real Christmas market going on. Yep, including oliebollen, Christmas songs, and glühwein. That it's just thirty degrees today in the Netherlands doesn't matter. You just have to imagine the snow and temperatures.

This Christmas market was an initiative of Bianca Verbree, from Kroko’s Evenementen. She had previously organized a Christmas market in the middle of summer, in Renesse. Now it's Hellevoetsluis's turn. ‘I was asked to organize various themed markets in Hellevoetsluis this summer. It's just a funny, crazy experience.’

Personally, I always hit the peak of my winter blues in December, so this could actually be a good option for me; finally enjoying the Christmas atmosphere for a change. And everything was thought of: Christmas elves, characters from the books of Charles Dickens, Christmas ornaments, and no less than 25 Christmas stalls. Not bad, right?

PS. In an earlier version, it was stated that the Christmas market was still ongoing, but this turns out not to be the case. Did we get your hopes up with a dead bird? A little bit, huh? Sorry, sorry, sorry. Then let's just put Mariah Carey on repeat again...
