Sardinia offers people 15,000 euros to move there

Have you always wanted to live on a beautiful island or just prefer to earn easy money? Then book a one-way ticket to Sardinia and go live there. You will also receive 15,000 euros. What? Yes, this is seriously true.

Sardinia has been struggling for years with a total depopulation of villages, and they really want to tackle this now. And well, apparently they are not able to keep people there, so what works better than the age-old trick called bribery? The government has budgeted no less than 45 million euros for this, so this is quite a large project.

Of course, there are some ‘rules of the game’, namely:
– The municipality you choose may have a maximum of 3,000 inhabitants
– You have until 2024 to take advantage of this ‘action’
– With the budget of 45 million euros, about 3,000 people can benefit from this action
– When you have purchased a house in a village, you must move there within eighteen months

And how does that 15,000 euros work? You get it completely free, as a subsidy to purchase or renovate the house. And no, you do not have to pay it back to the government.

I have no idea how this works tax-wise and how long you need to live there to take advantage of it, but it seems wonderful to spend half the year in beautiful Sardinia. And it is still much more affordable than the houses here. I say: let’s goooo.
