This is how you drink healthy during this warm summer

Okay okay, it's not scorching hot outside yet, but we're getting close and before we know it, we'll be fully immersed in that lovely warm summer, during which all the Dutch will start complaining about how hot it is. I really can't wait for the next heatwave. Enjoying the terrace with a glass of rosé and an ice-cold glass of water with ice cubes, wonderfully cooling down. But did you know that you might want to skip that glass of ice-cold water? Not entirely of course, because just a glass of rosé can really dehydrate you, but you should actually order a glass of lukewarm water alongside it.

Why? Ice-cold water is thirst-quenching, right? I hear you thinking. That's true, but that's exactly why our brains get the signal that we have less or no thirst anymore, while our body still needs moisture. And that's why it's better to drink lukewarm water, so we keep drinking more throughout the day. Moreover, research shows that drinking lukewarm water can actually help you cool down. How does that work? By drinking a warm beverage, you start to sweat, after which the moisture evaporates and your body temperature drops. Drinking warm is therefore an effective way to cool down, even if it might feel better to drink a glass of cold water.

Of course, it doesn't work that you cool down immediately after one glass of lukewarm water or a cup of tea; you really need to drink a few glasses for that. And maybe not in combination with three bottles of rosé, because too much alcohol in the sun is also not necessarily advisable. But well, I won't go further into that now, we also need to live a little.
