Horror lovers say: ‘I don't even dare to watch this movie anymore’

I have always been a horror lover, even as a child. Although I must admit that I acted a lot cooler about it back then than I do now, because let's be honest: it was cool back then. I didn't have nightmares after a movie like Scream and Saw, and of course, I wanted to show that off.
The fact that I did have nightmares (multiple sleepless nights, by the way) from The Dentist, I always kept well hidden. Meine gute, that movie was traumatic. Now I’m not too fond of dentists and I often dream that my teeth are falling out or breaking, so this movie and I were absolutely not a match. I didn't dare to say that when a childhood friend (who also loved horror movies) put it on during a sleepover, but I knew right away: never again.
Multiple horror lovers suffer from this, from that one movie that has become an absolute no-go. Because yes, we also have limits, and those were indicated by Redditors in the topic ‘What’s a horror movie that actually made you scared?’
1. ’1408. It’s not necessarily a high-quality film in the history of cinematography, but I never want to see it again because it made me so nauseous with pure fear, and that effect lingered long after the movie was over.’
2. ‘Mothman Prophesies. I had to drive back in the middle of the night on deserted roads and I kept looking in my rearview mirror to see if something was sitting in the back seat.’
3. ‘Event Horizon. I have no idea how it ends and I’m never going to find out.’
4. ‘Jeepers Creepers. I was so stressed during that movie.’
5. ‘Midsommar. And I didn’t even watch it. I read enough reviews to know the plot and then decided never to watch it.’
6. ‘Cabin Fever. I couldn’t drink water for a while after that.’
7. ‘Lake Mungo. I’ve been saying this for years: it’s the first and only horror movie that ever really scared me.’
8. ‘The Thing by John Carpenter. I hate that this topic reminds me of this movie again.’
9. ‘Sinister. The best movie ever that I will never watch again.’
10. ‘The Ring ruined me forever, but that will be 90 percent due to the age I was when I watched it. I will never know.‘
11. ‘The Grudge seriously traumatized me when I was young. I couldn’t sleep for months and was too scared to wash my hair in the shower.’
12. ‘Monster House. Please don’t ask me further or why. Too many bad memories.’
13. ‘The 4th Kind. I only fell asleep when it got light again the next day because I was simply too scared.’
14. And then one from myself: The Shining by Stanley Kubrick. I don’t think it needs any further explanation. I get goosebumps at the opening shot.
