How is Anna Delvey a.k.a. Sorokin doing now?

Anne Sorokin in real life and in the series

‘This story is completely true… Except for all the parts that are total bullshit!’ Netflix's Inventing Anna is our new favorite series. The intrigues of the elite, the scams, the delicious outfits of Anna, and the obsessive journalist; the series has it all. But how is it actually with Anna Delvey? Or should we say Sorokin?

Small disclaimer: this article naturally contains spoilers.

Anna is the woman whom the New York elite became so enchanted with that she lived a billionaire's life for four years. At this moment, her life is a bit less glamorous and the Russian (and thus not German) Anna Sorokin is in jail. Not in Rikers anymore, as we see in the series, but in the Orange County jail in New York. She is trying to prevent her extradition to Germany from here.

Anna Sorokin is known as New York's biggest con artist. But what on earth is a con artist? Loosely translated, it is an artist in deception, shaking the pockets of others empty. And judging by the series Inventing Anna, she succeeded quite well. She pretended to be a German heiress with a trust fund of millions of dollars. Her lawyer emphasized during the trial that Sorokin had a good business plan for The Anna Delvey Foundation and acted according to the fake it till you make it principle.

Sorokin (which is of course her real name) was arrested and convicted in 2017. Rumor has it that she hired a stylist to look good in court. In 2021, she was released for good behavior. Why does this really not surprise us? The unfortunate thing for Anna was that her visa expired by that time and the immigration service caught her again after six weeks. Anna is not lacking in entrepreneurial spirit, as she threw herself back into business life with, among other things, setting up a Correction Collection.

If you think Anna is hiding in deep shame, think again. Her Instagram account The Anna Delvey has 523,000 followers. Netflix paid Sorokin a whopping $320,000 for her cooperation in the series. She used almost all of this money to pay off debts, as her lawyer states that this is Anna's goal: to repay all the victims. Friend Neffatari a.k.a. Neff also worked intensively on making the Netflix hit. Anna emphasizes that she has not yet seen the series herself due to her arrest, as she wants to do this in peace without fellow inmates around her.

In an article she wrote herself for Business Insider, she raises the dubious fact that no one ends up in Orange County for overstaying a visa. She then questions whether she will not be convicted twice for the crimes committed. Her account in Business Insider mainly revolves around the system, and she concludes with three important questions for her: ‘Will I forever be judged by my early-to-mid 20s? Is there anything else I could possibly have done to close this chapter? Will I forever be stuck in a past not entirely of my creation without getting a chance to move on?’ In an interview with The New York Times, Anna Delvey emphasized that she has no regrets about her actions.

This will definitely be a ‘to be continued’.
