Netflix tip of the day: I Just Killed My Dad

Another day, another true crime story. Yes, Netflix doesn't know when to stop and that's a good thing, because true crime is more popular than ever. And there's a new docu out, I Just Killed My Dad, that you absolutely want to catch. This documentary tells the story of Anthony Templet, who shot his father Burt. Is he a cold-blooded murderer or is there much more behind this act?

Of course, the latter is the case — otherwise it would have been a very short and uninteresting documentary — and that makes it an impressive docu. Anthony was only seventeen years old when he grabbed two guns, shot his father, and then calmly called the emergency number to tell what he had just done. He waited for the police outside.

His father Burt did not die immediately from the shots, but lay in the hospital for three days. Police officers said they wondered if Anthony was even capable of feeling empathy; his father's death seemed to do nothing to him. Anthony himself says that he felt ‘terrible’ afterwards, but also that he ‘saw no other way out’.

I won't spoil too much, but of course nothing is as it seems. Can you have sympathy for a murderer? Someone who can shoot his father without any emotion? You might think you know how this documentary will go on (especially if you expect to gain understanding for Anthony), but believe me: it will still surprise you.
