This morning routine is going viral on TikTok

Do you also have such an incredible problem with that winter dip? I, for one, complain about it every morning because I really can't get out of bed. After snoozing twenty times (yes, I know that snoozing makes you even more tired), I eventually crawl out of bed, grumpily heading straight to the coffee machine.

Recognizable? Then the ‘slow morning routine’ might be something for you and me. This morning routine is going viral on TikTok and was shared by Shelby Lenae, also known as the ‘mindset mentor’. Don't worry, it's not a routine where you have to have meditated, exercised, and checked your email before seven in the morning. No, it's a routine designed to wake up slowly by keeping your dopamine levels as low as possible for as long as you can. This routine is especially popular among people with ADHD, like Lenae herself.

How does this routine work exactly? Well, first of all, we do NOT reach for our phone during the first hour we are awake. Lenae explains that our brains thrive on dopamine. We are always looking for the next bit of recognition or excitement. If you wake up and immediately grab your phone, your brain becomes dependent on the dopamine you get from everything you see on TikTok, Instagram, WhatsApp, and so on. To start your day calmly, you leave that phone alone for a while.

Next, you postpone your morning coffee for at least an hour and a half after waking up. Look, this is where I go wrong every day. Learning moment. Then on to breakfast, which according to this routine is best a protein-rich meal, such as oatmeal, yogurt, or a fried egg. Well, I do this part right since I have oatmeal for breakfast every day.. Finally, you do something that doesn't stress you out. This can be anything like going for a walk, reading a book, or even meditating, as long as you enjoy it.

That sounds pretty nice, right? I'm going to implement the slow morning routine starting tomorrow. Are you joining me?
