Netflix tip of the day: Girl In The Picture

True crime enthusiasts, Netflix has once again been very good to us. They have released a new documentary online called Girl in the Picture and you definitely don't want to miss it. If you, like me for example, are already familiar with various true crime cases (thanks to Reddit in my case), then you may have already heard of it and you also know: this is really one of the strangest cases you will find.
It's no wonder that many viewers call this docu ‘one of the most frightening things they’ve ever watched’; you would think we are somewhat used to it by now, but Girl in the Picture is definitely in a different category.
The documentary tells the story of a woman who is found dying by the side of the road in April 1990. She has a son and there is a man who claims to be married to her. This woman is only twenty years old and seems to be named Tonya Hughes.
The police soon discover that Tonya turns out to be a dancer in a strip club in Tulsa, Oklahoma. With her (much older) husband Clarence Hughes, she had a two-year-old son named Michael Anthony Hughes.
But the investigation takes a very different turn when the police discover that Tonya Hughes could not have died in April 1990, as she was already dead. The real Tonya Hughes was only eighteen months old and had died twenty years prior. But who was this woman then?
What seemed to be a ‘simple’ hit-and-run suddenly becomes a big mystery. Tonya's former colleagues had been worried about her relationship with this Clarence for some time, as they often saw her with bruises while changing clothes.
I won't spoil too much, but trust me: you want to see this. One plot twist after another, and you can hardly believe that this actually really happened. Just when you think it can't get weirder, sicker, and crazier... another twist comes in. A must-see for every true crime enthusiast. I give it a 9/10.
