Netflix Tip of the Day: The Real Bling Ring: Hollywood Heist

Netflix documentary Bling Ring

A new true crime documentary is now available on Netflix, but this time it's something different than usual. No gruesome murders, strange cults, or cannibals, no: this time it’s ‘just’ about burglaries. But then at the elite of Hollywood. Stars like Paris Hilton, Orlando Bloom, and Lindsay Lohan are the victims in this bizarre series of burglaries in Hollywood.

The Real Bling Ring: Hollywood Heist tells the story of these burglaries that took place in 2008 and 2009. The perpetrators were a group of friends who weren't even that old: all around eighteen and nineteen years old. There were five perpetrators in total: Alexis Haines, Rachel Lee, Nick Prugo, Courtney Ames, and Diana Tamayo. In total, they managed to steal over three million dollars worth of money, jewelry, and more personal belongings from celebrities and the wealthiest in Hollywood and Calabasas, which they then resold.

And they got away with it for quite a while: for over a year, they had their way in the homes of celebs. At Orlando Bloom's, they took away half a million dollars worth of Rolexes and Louis Vuitton bags. At Audrina Patridge's, from The Hills, they took clothing. Fun fact: she also appears in the documentary. ‘It felt just like they had gone shopping in my closet,’ she says about the burglary.

They became increasingly clear on security cameras (from Audrina Patridge and Lindsay Lohan), and eventually, the police managed to catch them. By now, all five are back on the streets and have picked up their lives again. No more robberies but normal lives with children, work, and a partner.

Even better: several members of ‘The Bling Ring’ also speak in the docu. This is a great watch, I must say.
