Singapore Sling
The typical Singapore thirst-quenching gin cocktail is pink in color and exotic sweet and fresh in taste. This refreshing long drink was invented at the Raffles hotel in Singapore. It was first made between 1889 and 1915 by bartender Ngiam Tong Boon who worked here. The Gin Sling, a cocktail with gin, lemon, sugar, and soda water was a famous gin cocktail at that time, and the bartender put his own twist on it.

The Raffles
You can order a Singapore Sling anywhere in the city, but the best place to do it is at The Long Bar of the Raffles hotel (named after the Englishman who discovered Singapore). The iconic drink costs here – don't be shocked – 37 Singapore dollars (equivalent to 25 euros). But then you are also somewhere nice. Fun fact: with your order, you get a basket of peanuts, the shells of which you traditionally throw on the floor.

Singapore Sling at home
You can also make such a delicious cocktail at home. The Singapore Sling is made with gin, cherry brandy, D.O.M. Bénédictine, Angostura bitters, pineapple juice, and grenadine syrup, topped with soda water.

How to make a Singapore Sling
1. Pour all ingredients except the soda water into the cocktail shaker;
2. Fill the shaker two-thirds full with ice cubes;
3. Shake for about 10 seconds and strain your cocktail into the highball glass filled with ice;
4. Top off with soda water;
5. Garnish with a lemon peel and a cocktail cherry and enjoy!
