If you recognize these points, you are a big spender

Every day, packages are delivered to the door, I’d rather spend my last cents on clothes than on food, and as soon as my salary is deposited, I’ll blow it all again within ten days. Am I a big spender? Well, I’m afraid I can’t deny that anymore. Not to mention the inflation, because that certainly doesn’t help.
But when can you actually call yourself a big spender? The Japanese money expert Ken Honda has created a special list of characteristics for this. Can you check off the points below? Welcome to the Big Spenders Club.
1. You spend money on things you don’t really need
I immediately think of the mini trampoline I ordered last week. It will be delivered tomorrow, so I’m really looking forward to that. Do I need it? Absolutely not. Will I use it often? I’m afraid not. Why did I buy it? I read somewhere (oh yes, in my own article) that trampoline jumping is the best workout. Well, I’m a very easy target. I could name another twenty examples of pointless things I’ve purchased in the past few months. The umpteenth pair of black loafers, slippers with a built-in hot water bottle, and countless beauty tools I’ve seen on TikTok. The big spender constantly feels the urge to buy unnecessary things. Check.
2. You have an extroverted personality
According to Honda, extroverted people are more often big spenders than introverts. Here’s why: extroverted people are quicker to please others, which they do through expensive treats. I can relate to this (as an introverted extrovert); I love treating others, even when I have no money to spare. So we can say that big spenders are generous people, and there’s nothing wrong with that, right? Okay, it might not always be very practical, but who doesn’t get happy from a nice gift or a lovely dinner?
3. You spend money when you’re not feeling emotionally well
Where the emotional eater grabs a tub of Ben & Jerry’s during sad moments, the big spender buys ridiculously expensive and luxurious items for themselves. This phenomenon is also known as ‘retail therapy’ and to be honest: it does work (for a while). However, it doesn’t solve your problems, but we big spenders know that for sure.
4. Even if you have debts, you keep spending money
Do you have four outstanding bills with Klarna and haven’t even paid off your credit card debt, but still find it necessary to go out for a bite to eat? You guessed it: then you are the ultimate big spender. One hundred percent guilty, unfortunately.
