This is the scariest film ever, according to research

girls watching a horror film together

Just a quick question out of curiosity: do you also get more scared as you get older? I used to be able to watch any movie and it was totally fine for me, but now I get palpitations just from seeing the first minute of The Shining. Not to mention horror movies with possessed kids; I really can't watch those after six in the evening anymore. And yet I see myself as a horror lover, but apparently, I'm only that during the day and afterwards I need to watch something cheerful to counter the fear.

This doesn't apply to all scary movies: slasher films like Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer I watch without any fear and with a lot of pleasure, but those aren't really scary. Which ones are? Well, research has been done on this by the ‘Science of Scare’ project, which monitored the heart rates of 50 people while they watched over 100 hours of scary movies.

What turns out? We find new movies much scarier than the classics. My theory is that it's because nowadays they are just getting bloodier, grimmer, and more macabre. They didn't provide an explanation for this, so I find this a legitimate reason.

From all the films that the test subjects watched, they made a top ten. And the winner is… Sinister. This film is from 2012 and stars Ethan Hawke, check the trailer here.
