The strangest products from Lidl

Say wine, snacks or haute cuisine and the gourmands at online food magazine FavorFlav know where to drink, how to eat it and what to cook. This time our cheffies serve you: The strangest products from Lidl.

A visit to the supermarket is an outing, especially when you come across the strangest things. Because how on earth do they come up with this? This time: 7x strange products you can find in Lidl.

Crispy airfryer/oven balls with white chocolate and strawberries
Colleague Wieke already wrote about it: Lidl sells chocolate bitterballen. One variant, choco & caramel-sea salt, she wanted to stock up on in bulk, to always have it in the freezer. The other variant gave her the chills: white chocolate & strawberries. And honestly: can we blame her? I wonder if anyone is lyrical about this combination.

Dates with cheese
It's the perfect snack for those who want to indulge with as little guilt as possible: the stuffed date. Delicious with a piece of walnut or a dab of peanut butter. Also good: wrap it in bacon and then put it in the oven, but definitely NOT the piece of cheese that Lidl has stuffed in these dates. I seriously think they cut up those Cheesestrings and filled these dates with them.

Chicken shawarma pizza
Perfect for people who feel like indulging in delicious greasy food and can't choose between pizza and shawarma. This is undoubtedly what you crave after a night out.

Duo cheese cow, tomato & olive and goat, honey and thyme
There's just a lot going on in this cheese. Separately, I really believe it's delicious – goat cheese, honey, and thyme is one of the best food combos there is – but together... I think your mouth will get an error if you put this duo cheese in it. Or you should cut it into separate cubes, but then I would prefer to buy these flavors separately.

Chicken cordon bleus in a large plastic bag
No, there's nothing wrong with chicken cordon bleus (super delicious even). But I had to laugh a bit when I saw this large plastic bag of 750 grams in the freezer. Ideal if this is your absolute, absolute, absolute favorite meat and you always want to have a chicken cordon bleu on hand.

Mushroom slices in a jar
I know it's convenient, long-lasting food in a jar. But there are really types that I think: just buy it fresh. Even if it's just because it looks like it could get a spot in the biology classroom, among the entrails in strong alcohol. (Sorry if you love this and I've ruined it forever with this comment.)

Chocolate popcorn with coconut
We see strange popcorn flavors more often, such as the dropcorn: popcorn with licorice flavor. We find this chocolate popcorn with coconut too much of a good thing. This is too far removed from the light, crispy popcorn that we love to snack on during a movie. I also don't think this popcorn is something you'll keep reaching for, because the coconut flavor is quite dominant. Which might be a positive thing.
