Why you want to watch Get Back this weekend

Get Back the beatles

Imagine having seventy hours of footage from the recording period of the most famous and best-selling band (600 million records, compared to that, Adele and Ed Sheeran are just small fries) and having to condense it into a ‘digestible’ documentary. That has been achieved, if you consider eight hours digestible. Still, a whole workday spent with mod-men (modernists) and old rockers is something you truly long for, and for a hundred reasons, of which I will mention a few.

1. Slow tv
You really don't have much better to do at the moment, so what could be better than lounging on the couch for eight hours under the guise of culture and history?

2. The music of course
You see that legendary office on the roof of Apple on Savile Row (which lasted only 40 minutes because the police intervened due to complaints from NEIGHBORS), but also the sudden emergence of Get Back while Paul McCartney is jamming a bit on his bass. Just like Michelangelo freeing a statue from the block of marble it was trapped in, David Rijser describes it in the Volkskrant. I also look forward to Two of Us, which Paul McCartney and John Lennon sing while their love is waning, in other words, riding nowhere, not arriving.

3. Yoko Ono
Dressed in head to toe black or head to toe white, John distancing himself from the rest, much to the irritation of the group and especially Paul McCartney.

4. Linda Eastman (later McCartney)
She seems to be of service in everything, warm and soft. She photographs the group like a fly on the wall and is Paul’s great love. We know she will always remain that, that she will become the mother of Stella McCartney, that Stella will launch a perfume (LILY) that stands for Linda I Love You, as Paul always called her. Ah, those great, all-encompassing loves. I am so curious to be able to spy on and admire those two women ‘in real life’.

5. The clothing
A bit messier than now (a sweat spot more or less was not a big deal), but still very current. Turtlenecks, classic suits, unisex clothing, T-shirts with button closures (granddad shirt), and for the men, many psychedelic-inspired cheerful and colorful blouses. Yoko is always in black or completely white, and Linda we see soft, in every respect.

Ah, I am so looking forward to it.
