Netflix tip of the day: The Disappearance

forsvinningen netflix

From today, there is a very nice new addition on Netflix: the Norwegian crime series Forsvinningen. Well, and if you like crime a bit, you know: in Scandinavia they can do this so much better. That's already the case with books, but also with series. Kalifat is still one of my favorite series (if you haven't seen it yet: do it), Kastanjemanden was also very nice (if you haven't read that book yet: do it, even if you've already seen the series) and now we have Forsvinningen. Extra plus: this series is based on a true story.

And that is the story of the disappearance of 69-year-old Norwegian millionaire Anne-Elisabeth Hagen. She disappeared in 2018 and has never been found. Grim. The police initially assumed she had been kidnapped, but now believe she was killed. At the time, a ransom was demanded, although the police have doubts about whether this was a genuine action or if they did it to mislead them: that the police would think it was a kidnapping, while Anne-Elisabeth may not have been alive anymore.

The ransom involved millions, which were to be paid in cryptocurrencies. The doubt about the authenticity of this arose because the police (and Anne-Elisabeth's lawyer) only wanted to negotiate after they received a sign of life, and that never came.

Anne-Elisabeth Hagen was married to investor Tom Hagen, who with his 1.9 billion crowns (about 170 million euros) is among the 200 richest people in Norway. He also had to account to the police, who suspected he had something to do with the disappearance.

You get it: this is going to be a series you want to binge in one evening. All five episodes, each just under an hour, are now online. Enjoy.
