Wow: this is how many calories you burn during three days of Lowlands

It is my favorite way of exercising: going to a festival. Yes, I can seriously see that as a workout. Of course, at an average festival, I might drink a bit more than on any other random day (and then especially alcohol and not water), but I also burn a lot more. And yes, I have seriously had muscle pain from Lowlands. But it is also just hard work. From Thursday (because that day earlier is always so much fun) to Monday morning: you are quite busy, you know.

From hauling your tent, that miserable bridge over, a few times back and forth to your tent in a day, walking countless rounds on the site itself, and then you also dance a lot in the meantime. If you look at that separately from all the food and drinks you consume over such a weekend: that is just a hefty sports weekend. But how many calories do you burn approximately during an average weekend at Lowlands?

Red Bull looked that up for us. They concluded that an average festival-goer covers about twenty kilometers in three days, and with that, you burn no less than 9000 calories. A good start. Because yes: that’s just the beginning.

With that dancing, we also burn quite a few calories, although that varies by style. If you spend an hour in the mosh pit, you burn about 400 to 750 calories per hour. If you go wild on hip-hop, that’s good for 370 to 610 calories. They also give the tip that whatever dance style you choose, move your arms vigorously because that way you burn even more calories. WINNING.

From now on, I’m going to sell the annual Lowlands weekend as a sports weekend. Some people go on tennis holidays or football camps, right? Well, I do that now too.
