Wiekes Weetjes: unnecessary facts you want to know anyway

Today something different again. No grim facts (although…), no facts that you necessarily learn a lot from, but just silly facts that are still fun to know. Who knows, you might tell them as a party trick at a boring party or someone might ask about them during a pub quiz, you never know. I consider the chance the greatest that you will ultimately never be able to use this, but still. Always nice to know.
1. It is impossible to lick your own elbow
…And you tried it now, didn’t you?
2. The heart of a shrimp is located in its head
3. Pigs cannot look up at the sky
Also strange, right? Seems extremely frustrating to me.
4. But pigs do have orgasms that last half an hour
Well, actually that also seems extremely exhausting to me.
5. Los Angeles actually has a different name
Its full name is The City Of Angels, namely l Pueblo de Nuestra Senora la Reina de los Angeles de Porciuncula. But for intimates, it’s Los Angeles.
6. Holding your headphones for an hour causes the number of bacteria in your ear to multiply by 700
God-damn-it.
7. The most common name in the world is Mohammed
Side note: this also includes the various variants such as Mehmet, Muhammed, and Mohamed.
8. There is a city named Rome on every continent except Antarctica
In the United States alone, there are thirteen cities named Rome.
9. Elephants are the only animals that cannot jump
10. Cockroaches can live for several weeks without a head
‘Like a headless chicken’ would actually be better as: ‘like a headless cockroach’. As fact number 11, I would actually like to state that cockroaches are the most disgusting animals on earth, because that is just a hard fact, as far as I’m concerned.
