What should we do with Madonna?
When I was young, the world seemed much more straightforward. And it actually was. You sent a postcard, read the news in the newspaper, people had bookshelves, and once a year a new album by Madonna would come out.
And because we didn't have many stars (it was a bit of Madonna, Prince, and Michael Jackson who set the beat), we played that entire album. The clips, the lyrics, the photos with the lyrics; I devoured it down to the last crumb.
Today, Madonna is pretty much the last living legend we have. Prince, Michael Jackson, George Michael, Whitney Houston; all seem to have consumed life too intensely, causing them, either mentally or physically, not to reach retirement age.
But Madonna is a different story. With muscles of steel and the character of a queen, she has always been able to continue ruling over her empire. She shocked with the kiss with Britney Spears during the VMA's in 2003 and had relationships with young dancers who were all about thirty years younger than her.
So far, exactly how I wanted her to be. A bit strange, but nice. And if she was also playing Yahtzee with four friends on a Friday night, the magic would crumble for me.
But Madonna knows no brakes. Follow her Instagram (and especially the reels) and you see her crawling under a bed with pink hair and a puffed-up butt, then in a nun-like version of herself, begging for a personal trainer. Today I found her, it really felt a bit like, with colored hair in four braids and draped in chains giving a TikTok performance where she asked if you’ve ever been hit in your ‘motherf*cking’ face. I see a transformed woman, lips filled, eyebrows bleached, almost nearsightedly looking if her phone's camera is already rolling so she can start her dance.

And now I’m struggling with the what-should-I-do-with-Madonna issue. Does she go in the sad box or do I cherish her as the last living eighties star and forgive her the craziness.
