Behind every woman (or man) with an extensive perfume collection lies a deep-rooted relationship with their very first perfume. The perfume for which you specially went to Douglas with your parents because you were ready for the next step in your prepubescent life: a signature scent. If you, as a teenager in the 00s, also scoured all the shelves until you found the perfect scent, there is a very good chance that one of the perfumes below went home with you.

Tommy Girl
With this perfume, you were the epitome of chic. The red-blue striped packaging radiated the luxury you had been searching for weeks. Tommy Girl was your first step towards adulthood.

Cacharel Amor Amor
For years, I devoured bottles of this and the scent still takes me straight back to the stuffy hallways of my old high school. With this perfume, I felt like a woman of the world and no one could touch me. Maybe that was also because I felt the need to reapply after every class, which made sure no one wanted to come near me, but I unfortunately learned much later that that was a less good idea.

Celebrity perfumes
You saw these in ELLEgirl or CosmoGIRL! and you just had to have them. You carefully gathered all your birthday money to get a bottle of JLo, Beyoncé, or Christina Aguilera, and then flaunted it every day at school. Often, you could just buy this at the drugstore in your own village. Convenient, because then you could immediately grab some butterfly clips and elastics for your loom bands.

Victoria’s Secret body spray
Sheer Love, Vanilla Lace, Amber Romance, and of course Pure Seduction. If you wore this, you were as close to being a Victoria’s Secret Angel as you would ever get. These body sprays were also reapplied and exchanged every hour in the girls' bathroom. If I had been as dedicated to getting good grades as I was to drowning myself in the sickly sweet secrets of Victoria, I probably wouldn't have had to retake the fourth grade.

Vogue Girl deodorant
Probably also your very first deodorant that you were so proud of. The deodorant from Vogue Girl was the scent that adorned the locker rooms of all gymnasiums in the early 2000s, but it was also used to mask that sneaky cigarette in the park next to school. Sorry mom.

Ralph by Ralph Lauren
Sickly sweet but oh so good. I wasn't allowed to take this in my father's car when we had to drive long distances, and I thought that was silly and exaggerated. I won't mention that I made one bottle last about two weeks because I was so addicted to this scent.

DKNY Be Delicious
If I try really hard, I can still smell this perfume. The ‘apple’ from Donna Karan New York smelled sweet, fresh, and a bit sexy; with this perfume in your bag, you felt mega grown-up.

D&G Light Blue
I once read that Lauren Conrad wore this scent during the filming of Laguna Beach. No idea if that's true, but I have never sprinted to Douglas so fast. And honestly: I still buy everything this woman promotes.
