Are UV lamps for your nails really that bad for you?

UV lamp nails

For about a year now, I hardly have my ‘own’ nails anymore. No, I only walk around with Biab, gellac, or solar nails. It's lovely to match that a bit with your mood or the season: let those fall nails come now. I also really find it a moment of peace for yourself, because as a phone addict, I can then not be near my phone for about an hour. It's really serious that this is already an achievement for me, but well, I enjoy it immensely.

And of course, the polish on your nails is then dried under a UV lamp, and we need to talk about that. According to recent research they are actually much worse for us than was initially thought.

This was reported by the University of California San Diego, which studied these lamps. They concluded that frequent use can indeed lead to cell death and can cause cancer-causing mutations in human cells. And that was not so clear before: a lot of research had been done on UV lamps used for tanning beds, but little was known about the variants for nails.

And now it turns out that they are absolutely not good for us; if you use the UV lamp for a 20-minute session on your hands, it leads to 20 to 30 percent cell death... Three consecutive sessions of 20 minutes can even lead to 65 to 70 percent. Well, you never sit under that lamp for that long, but those are not really pleasant numbers, so it's good to keep this in mind.
