Kiwi fruit

Who else struggles to eat at least one piece of fruit every day? Well, I do. I've eaten a simple apple or banana so many times that I'm just tired of the taste. But if there's one type of fruit that I prefer to grab from the fruit bowl, it's a kiwi for me. Besides the fact that it helps my irritable bowels, it has a number of other benefits, provided you eat at least one daily according to experts.

You can go to the bathroom more easily
After a somewhat indulgent vacation full of foods your body isn't normally used to, you can get quite constipated. Take a kiwi and you can definitely go to the bathroom again. It has an effect on the gastrointestinal tract, which gets your digestion going.

It reduces bloating
Kiwis are full of fiber and retain enough water at the same time. After eating a meal high in protein, such as a bowl of yogurt or a large plate of pasta, it can relieve your bloated/constipated feeling.

It helps combat high cholesterol levels
Due to the high amount of plant fibers in a kiwi, it helps keep high cholesterol levels in your body under control.

It works against wrinkles
Kiwis are packed with antioxidants that help combat free radicals. During times of excessive sun exposure, there is an increase in these free radicals, which can lead to wrinkles. But no worries: by eating a kiwi, you can somewhat keep the aging process of your skin in check.

It helps with pimples
It is full of vitamins, especially vitamin C, which combats inflammation aka pimples. How nice is that.

You will sleep better
And for your emotional state, it works wonders too. It contains melatonin, so you guessed it: if you eat a kiwi in the morning and evening, you'll fall asleep like a log.

You feel less fatigued
Various experts blame a deficiency in vitamin C for mental fatigue, so go for the kiwis. With the winter blues coming up, hopefully, you'll manage a bit better mentally this fall.

But should we eat green or yellow kiwis? That depends on your goal. If your body is asking for more fiber, it is recommended to choose a green kiwi. If you need more vitamin C, go for the yellow one. And to immediately answer the next question: when is the best time to eat them? According to experts, during breakfast. Besides the fact that a kiwi in the morning boosts your immune system, it also provides a hefty dose of antioxidants that your body needs that day.

So you hear it: a kiwi a day keeps the doctor away.
