The nicest boutiques in Middelburg where you want to shop

Living in Zeeland and having a passion for shopping at the same time is not the best combo; here in the province, there are simply not many nice shops. And yes, I am a true Zeeuw, so I know what I'm talking about. You have to rely more on the local boutiques, and Middelburg just happens to be full of them. I go there almost weekly, and every time I spend way too much money, so here are my favorites.

Let me start with my number one: ROOZ. Here they sell Scandinavian brands like Samsøe Samsøe, Second Female, and Modström, so if you, like me, are into timeless clothing, then this is the shop for you. Items I bought there two years ago I still wear because of the good quality. It is on the pricey side, so if you don't mind spending money, you should definitely go here. The shop itself is located right in the center in a side street, and for when you're not nearby: they also have a webshop.

Second best is AMI DE COCO. If you park your car at the Dam, you walk straight towards it. What makes this shop so nice is that they sell beautiful brands like Closed and Humanoid, brands that not everyone wears. Besides clothing and accessories, they mainly sell a lot. of. shoes. The perfect shop for me, since I need a new pair every month. New Balances, for example, in all kinds of shapes and sizes, which are usually sold out everywhere; they just sell them there, and there's a good chance they still have your size.

Then we also have Maison de la Mer, located in a side street of the Grote Markt. Here you will find clothing brands like By-Bar and American Vintage, but my preference mainly goes to all the home decor they have there. A nice detail is that certain accessories have a Zeeuwse touch. And no, it's not as old-fashioned as it sounds now.

Having a nice meal somewhere is definitely part of it. My favorite spot is De Juf op de Dam. They are known for their delicious homemade pastries, but have also been serving lunch and breakfast for a few years now. When I go there, it is often already packed, so try to make a reservation. And if I can give you one tip: take the zucchini-goat cheese quiche or the caramelitas if you prefer something sweet.
