Jeroen and I had been dating for a while and had seen each other about six times when my dating disaster occurred. I liked him quite a bit, but I could still appreciate time by myself. He said he really liked that about me and encouraged me when I said I would go to the movies alone on the weekend. I hadn't said which day or which movie, but he knew I would go.

So it surprised me that once I was at the cinema, I saw someone who looked suspiciously like Jeroen. I only saw his back, but when you know someone for a while, you can recognize them from behind as well. I decided to stand up to go to the bathroom and have a good look on the way back. You might guess it: it was him. His face went pale when he saw me and I immediately saw why: he had a girl with him. Now we had never agreed to be exclusive, but this was of course a very embarrassing moment.

I had to look at their backs for the entire movie, and when the movie was over, something happened that made me snap at him immediately. He jumped up, ran out of the room, and left his date behind (who was trying her best to keep up with him on towering heels). I walked out of the room behind them and saw the whole scene unfold. He was like an arrow towards the parking lot, she was stumbling behind him, and I regretted not filming this. It was just too much for words.

I did speak to him later when he apologized for going on a date with someone else. I explained that I didn't mind that given our non-exclusive status, but that I found it very embarrassing that he literally left his date out in the cold and that we might as well stop. She had said that too, he admitted. And so Jeroen went from two dates to none in one evening.
