Science says: this is how long the ideal foreplay lasts

Foreplay is a strange thing. We all know we enjoy it, yet it gets skipped nine times out of ten. Why is that? Are we in too much of a hurry? Can’t we just wait? Do we secretly want to get it over with a bit faster? Whatever it is, we here at the editorial office unanimously agree: Do not. Skip. In fact, research shows that the average foreplay lasts about twelve minutes. In that same research, women indicate that they really need some time to warm up, while men find foreplay nice but not necessarily always necessary. Well, we don’t need research to tell us that. Still, it turns out that we all compromise a bit when you examine the ideal scenario. The perfect foreplay actually lasts a lot longer than the average, and here’s why.

Women actually need a full 40 minutes to warm up completely, compared to a meager 11 minutes (no, not seconds) for men. But where does this big difference come from? The answer is actually quite obvious. Women start counting from the very first touch. Think of a quick kiss with a gentle stroke over your back while washing the dishes. Men see foreplay as something that really only happens right before the act. Add those two different ideas together and divide by two, and you have your average. This is mainly a message for the men: start your foreplay consciously before diving into the bedroom by speaking sweet words, giving small touches, and occasionally throwing in a bit of dirty talk (pro tip: text your partner something exciting while you’re both still at work). It may take a little extra effort, but then you’ll get something in return. Have fun trying it out!
