Sorry, but if this couple breaks up, then hope in Hollywood romances is officially given up, it seems to me. Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds have been together since 2011, married since 2012 — which is already an eternity in Hollywood years, but fans are worried that their marriage is going to hit the rocks. And the reason for that may sound a bit twisted, but there is certainly a logic behind it.

It all started with a blind item (a rumor where it is not revealed who it is about, but you have to figure it out yourself through hints) about an ‘American favourite Hollywood couple’ and a ‘superhero’ (Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool), who was said to be in talks with a divorce lawyer. Especially Reynolds would be busy with these discussions. Just to be clear: there is zero evidence for a rumor like this, and in principle, anyone can write this down. Still, there is one thing that gives fans reason to seriously worry now.

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds exchanged vows in 2012, during a ceremony at Bone Hall Plantation in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. They received a lot of criticism for this at the time, as holding a wedding at a plantation is not a very thoughtful decision and one they later expressed regret about. This plantation was historically where black people were held, used as slaves and forced to work from sunrise to sunset under extremely poor conditions. Not exactly a location where a rich, white couple (or any couple for that matter) should get married or see as a romantic venue.

And so their wedding left a bit of a sour taste for the two, and they renewed their vows, and that is precisely why everyone is worried about the couple. Renewing vows is also seen as a bit of The Hollywood Kiss Of Death for marriages: there are very few couples who stayed together long after that.

Kim and Kanye, Seal and Heidi Klum, Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony, Kris Jenner and Caitlyn Jenner, Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore, Khloé and Lamar Odom, Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon… And those are just a few couples who broke up shortly after their renewals. It is often seen as a ‘last desperate attempt’ to save the marriage.

So it remains to be seen whether Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds are really breaking up or if they are even in a marital crisis. I seriously doubt it… If a marriage is going to hit the rocks, I would bet my money on Chrissie Teigen and John Legend, as they too recently renewed their vows.
