Handy: this table tells you how painful tattoos are on your body

I don't have one myself, although I've been doubting lately whether to get one. The two reasons holding me back are, first, that I absolutely don't know what I should get, and second, that I think there's a good chance I'll become addicted right away. People who get tattoos almost never just get one. The explanations for this vary quite a bit, as I hear around me that the pain can be quite addictive and also that people simply have too much inspiration for designs on their bodies.

But the experiences of how painful it is also vary quite a bit. Of course, everyone has a different pain threshold, but the location makes the biggest difference in terms of pain. And that seems to be the same for everyone; this handy table has been created to show exactly which spots are for the diehards and which you (hopefully) get through whistling at the tattoo artist.

For example, I would prefer to get my first tattoo on my foot (nice cliché) or the side of my ribs. Yep, you guessed it: those spots are the most painful. If you can't handle the pain of the needles very well, your forearm is a good spot, or your back, but not where your spine runs. Unless you're a man, because then your back is indeed a sensitive spot. The painful zones do indeed differ per man or woman. Are you planning to get a tattoo? Then you can start mentally preparing for the pain now...
