The lion diet is a hit on TikTok

Say wine, snacks or haute cuisine and the gourmands at online food magazine FavorFlav know where to drink, how to eat it and what to cook. This time our cheffies serve you: The lion diet is a hit on TikTok.
Nowadays we are expected to eat less meat. Less meatballs, hamburgers, steak, and sticky spareribs . Still, there is a diet going around on TikTok that is almost the opposite of the pro-vegetarian trend: the lion diet.
And no, you don't need to take a subscription to Artis or book a one-way ticket to South Africa for that.
What is the lion diet?
The lion diet is quite intense. It is an extreme version of a carnivore diet. You eat only meat for 30 days; no vegetables or fruits. The meat you eat should preferably be red. Beef, pork, lamb, mutton, and horse meat can all be consumed.

Should we do it?
The lion diet is a diet that provides you with extremely high protein intake. Red meat is a source of protein. Some researchers claim that a carnivore diet (like the lion diet) ensures you get all the nutrients, but some in lower concentrations. For example, it is recommended to take extra calcium and vitamin C if you decide to follow the lion diet.
Or maybe not?
Sounds attractive? Mwah, not for everyone. Climate activists are completely against it. And for your health? Thirty days is too short to have much physical impact, but if you eat a lot and only (red) meat for a long time, it really seems like an unhealthy choice. Deadly boring too, let alone animal-friendly.
Conclusion
We (and many health experts with us) recommend skipping this TikTok trend. Can't you really live without your favorite chicken satay or crispy pork belly? Go your gang. But make sure to eat some vegetables with it.
