We mentioned it earlier as perhaps the most beautiful hotel in Venice and we were right: Hotel Cipriani has been named the best hotel in the world by La Liste. Based on travel guides, reviews by the press and consumers, La Liste has compiled a list of a thousand dream destinations, in which Italian hotels are well represented.

Best hotel in the world

Hotel Cipriani
When you think of La Serenissima, you think of Hotel Cipriani. The hotel is intertwined with the city and has hosted stars like George Clooney, Sophia Loren, and Angelina Jolie as well as royals. La Liste’s managing director Hélène Pietrini praises the ‘unparalleled hotel’ among other things as ‘a top destination for refined luxury.’

According to Cipriani’s managing director Marco Novella, the hotel owes the award to its iconic history, gastronomic identity, guest loyalty, professionalism of the team, and Cipriani's innovative mindset.

And Cipriani is not the only hotel on La Liste's ranking. Il San Pietro di Positano is in a shared third place and Il Pellicano in Porto Ercole, Mandarin Oriental in Milan, Caruso in Amalfi and Portrait in Florence are in a shared fourth place.

In the top twenty (with many shared rankings) in Italy from high to low are also Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco in Tuscany, Hotel de la Ville Rome, Gardena Grödnerhof in Ortisei, Hotel Savoy in Florence, The Gritti Palace in Venice, Villa Igiea in Palermo, Hotel Vilòn in Rome and Grand Hotel Tremezzo at Lake Como.

Special Awards La Liste
Finally, La Liste also awards special awards. For example, Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco received an extra curl as the winner in the countryside category. The Hotel Opening of the Year Award went to La Palma Capri and the Heart & Soul Award to La Dimora Brusaporto. The latter is awarded to hotels that do something a little extra for guests with heart and soul, which the hotel near Bergamo does by serving a six-course breakfast that you eat at the table with the chef and his family.
