Netflix comes with new true crime documentary

Jill Dando
Coincidentally, I thought this week: is the hype around true crime over? I would find that very unfortunate, as my fascination is far from extinguished. Netflix hasn't come out with anything new in this genre for a while, and so I became a bit restless. It turned out to be unnecessary today, as they have already announced a new documentary.

This upcoming documentary will be about the unsolved murder of Jill Dando, who was shot dead twenty years ago on the doorstep of her own home. Jill was a familiar face: she worked for the BBC. She started there as a newsreader and then went on to work for the program Crimewatch. The name says it all: it is indeed a program about (true) crime stories that remain unsolved. Jill was 37 when she died.

In this documentary, a lot of footage from the past will be shown, but you will also see that new research has been conducted into this case. The police have spoken to more than 2000 potential suspects in the past twenty years, and someone was even convicted: Barry George was imprisoned for eight years for the murder, until the case was dropped during the appeal.

The case becomes even more mysterious: in 2014, a former colleague of Dando said that she was, just before her death, working to expose a gigantic pedophile ring, involving many well-known faces: ‘I don't remember the names of all the stars and I don't want to implicate anyone, but Jill said at the time that they were surprisingly big names.’

Could this be the reason for her liquidation? I think this is going to be a very special documentary. Unfortunately, it is not yet known when it will be online, but it won't be long now.
