Make-up trends that we could better leave behind

It’s 2023, the year in which ‘less is more’ has become the beauty motto. Personally, I’m completely fine with that, as I got a bit crazy from all the beauty gurus and their wild makeup looks. Still, a few trends will have to disappear to achieve that ‘no make-up make-up look’.
Soap brows
After those ultra-thin eyebrows from the 90s, I thought it couldn’t get worse, but apparently it can: the soap brows. With this technique, you brush the eyebrows straight up with soap. I think this trend is only suitable for people with naturally thin eyebrows to make them look a bit fuller because I end up looking like a grizzly bear with my full brown eyebrows. I must admit that soap works really well to keep the hairs in place all day, but make sure to brush your eyebrows diagonally up instead of straight up. Thank you in advance.

Too dark foundation
I also love a nice sunkissed color, but that’s just not always possible. In winter, you naturally have a different color than in summer, but some people seem to have forgotten that. My tip is to have your foundation color matched in a store and step outside when the makeup artist has applied it. The light in stores is anything but what it seems.

Foundation lips
Speaking of foundation, always remove the foundation from your lips after applying makeup. A few years ago, it was all the rage to leave it on, but not anymore. It feels like you’re almost dying but haven’t realized it yet. Your lips only get drier and smaller from it. Even if you just put on a simple Labello, anything is better than such a dry nude lip.

Emo eyeliner
A thin line of eyeliner has never harmed anyone: it just adds that extra touch to your eye look, but let’s please leave that emo look from the past behind. A triple line is really not necessary for that smoky eye look when going out. It looks so aggressive and makes your eyes super small, which is just a shame.

Intense eyeshadow
We see it everywhere on TikTok: beauty gurus creating intense makeup looks with all the colors of the rainbow. It looks super cool, but I feel like only models wear it during cover shoots. For everyday life, you really better just use a few nice brown shades on your eyelid instead of mixing purple, yellow, and blue, but to each their own of course.
