Netflix tip of the day: The Golden Hour

By
Golden Hour

So typical of me again: being incredibly impressed by a series on Netflix, only to find out that it was already available on NPO3 last year. I really hardly ever watch TV anymore and as a result, I clearly miss quite a few good series. The fact that a lot of good content is being produced locally these days no longer surprises me. It's actually only better that series like Het Gouden Uur are heading to Netflix; I bet they reach a larger audience there, who are probably just as impressed as I am.

Het Gouden Uur is truly an exciting series, with amazing acting by Nasrdin Dchar. The title is thanks to the hour after an attack: the chance is quite high that another attack will occur within an hour. And this series is about that hour.

Dchar plays detective Mardik, who comes under the radar of AIVD agent Joelle (played by Ellen Parren). Mardik was born in Afghanistan and still has contact with an old acquaintance from there. When he hears through the grapevine that a friend from his past, Faysa (played by Abbas Fasaei), is in the Netherlands, he is anything but reassured. And when an attack is carried out in Amsterdam, things go completely wrong.

It's really a series where you don't get bored for a second, because it's nonstop action and excitement. Admittedly: this comes at the expense of the story and the characters a bit, but Het Gouden Uur is definitely a series that holds your attention. A great addition to Netflix, although NPO viewers probably already know it. Next time, feel free to remind me if there's a good series on TV.
