Dating Disasters: ‘There was no way to wake him up’

In Dating Disasters vertellen anonieme lezers over hun gênantste, meest tenenkrommende en dramatische dates. Deze week: the one night stand that didn't leave.

I already knew it was a super dumb choice to drag this man home before I did it. I met him once on Tinder and we had one date at my place where he had nothing to say but also wouldn't leave. All the hints I gave about how tired I was, how early my alarm would go off the next day, and that I would still text him, he expertly threw out the window while steadfastly sitting on my couch. By the way, he wasn't annoying, just a bit hard of hearing. Luckily, I eventually got him out the door and after a short WhatsApp conversation, I indicated that I wasn't interested in a second date.

I thought I would never see him again, until that one night in the middle of winter. I was just tipsy enough to forget the evening of that dramatic date and just disappointed enough in the other sex to find him somewhat attractive again. And besides: it probably wasn't that bad, right?

I ran into him in a kebab shop (I never said this would be a fancy story) and decided to ask him to come home with me. Through rain and wind, we cycled to my house where we tried in vain to have sex. We were both way too drunk, so in the end, nothing came of it. Like a block, I fell asleep and there seemed to be no problem in the air. Until I woke up.

Immediately, I felt everything in my body telling me I wanted him out the door as soon as possible, but I couldn't wake him up. His big, sweaty body suddenly repulsed me and I could no longer be in the same room with him. My own shame about this action also played a part, of course. I did everything to get him out of my house. I took a shower, did the dishes, vacuumed... He didn't wake up from anything.

Until I came up with a brilliant plan. I shook his shoulder and said, ‘My parents are coming over.’ Never have I seen someone jump up so quickly from a little white lie. He got dressed, drank a glass of water, and almost sprinted out of my house. We never spoke again, until about three years ago. I had to pick something up from an acquaintance of an acquaintance and suddenly he was sitting there on the couch: it turned out he was her boyfriend. So this story ended unexpectedly happily. I now have a boyfriend who gives me all the space I need and he has a girlfriend who clearly has no problem with him occupying her couch.
