4 reasons why you don't want to eat soft ice cream anymore

Say wine, snacks or haute cuisine and the gourmands at online food magazine FavorFlav know where to drink, how to eat it and what to cook. This time our cheffies serve you: 4 reasons why you don't want to eat soft ice cream anymore.
At the time of writing, storm Poly is raging through the country, so it's hard to imagine that next Saturday it will be above 30 degrees again. But if we are to believe the weather forecasts, that is really what is going to happen. In other words: it's time for ice cream again. And if you plan to score a soft serve somewhere, you might want to stop reading.
I'm going to tell you four reasons why you never want to do this again. So you have been warned: read at your own risk...
AFTER THIS YOU'LL NEVER WANT TO EAT A SOFT SERVE AGAIN
1. The machines can be full of dangerous bacteria
It's extremely important to keep the soft serve machines clean, but whether that actually happens all the time... That's hard to assess as a consumer. But it can really be very dirty: just look here.
2. It's a huge job to keep them clean
Maybe that has a bit to do with the point above — because keeping these machines really clean is just a tough job. If I may believe the experiences, this is because the machine consists of many parts, some of which can be removed, but some cannot (and those are harder to keep clean).
3. The ice cream gets contaminated with bacteria very quickly
This is due to the temperature at which the ice cream is stored: to keep it bacteria-free, there is only a very small margin possible in terms of temperature. And if the temperatures fall outside of that, then it is actually the perfect environment for bacteria to spread.
4. And those bacteria can make you very sick
Food poisoning from soft serve is much more common than you think. In 2005, there was even an outbreak in Ohio, when over 120 people got sick after a machine was contaminated with staphylococcus. And to make it even a bit worse, this also applies to milkshake machines: the same types of bacteria are often found there that can make people extremely sick.
What you can best do? Well, that's make your own ice cream. Then you are responsible for the cleaning, and really: it's often much tastier too.
