Little moments of happiness that make our hearts leap

Tell me I'm not the only one who finds this weather truly miserable. What exactly did we do to deserve this rain, cold, and icy wind? My heart sank completely when colleague Daan just forwarded a news article stating that it would be colder on King's Day than on New Year's Day. I was still hoping for a misplaced April Fool's joke, but it turned out to be no joke at all. These cold, wet, and nasty conditions seem to not be done with us yet. It feels like an episode of Special Forces. Anyway, since we can't influence the weather, we might as well accept it. Perhaps we should focus on everything that is going well while we wait for the sun rays we all crave. So, with love and a sprinkle of hope, I present to you all the little moments of happiness from the past week that make our hearts leap.
1. Not buying dessert because you want to live healthier, then regretting that the version of yourself who was in the supermarket three hours ago decided you shouldn't have dessert, only to realize you still have ice cream in the freezer. Winning.
2. True story: when your order goes wrong at a café and instead of a glass of cava, you accidentally receive a cocktail you've never had before but is immediately crowned your new favorite drink of the summer (which will eventually come, just hang in there). FYI: it was a Negroni Spritz and you need that in your life too.
3. My personal favorite: waking up at night feeling like it's almost morning, only to realize that you still have over four hours until your alarm goes off. A bed has never felt so good.
4. The smell of the first layer of freshly mowed grass at the beginning of summer. Could the person who can bottle this scent please make themselves known? I need at least one daily dose of this.
5. Laughing with the people you love the most until no sound comes out anymore. I'm lucky to have a sister with whom I share all my humor DNA, so when we get together, it's guaranteed to be a riot until we can't anymore. I'm convinced this is the secret to a long and happy life.
6. Discovering a new series and then finding out it has seven whole seasons with each having 21 episodes of at least forty minutes long. Speaking of hitting the Netflix jackpot.
7. All introverts put your hands up: when someone cancels an appointment you were already not looking forward to. The only thing you need to do then is respond with an insincere ‘oh, too bad’, and then blissfully disappear under your duvet. Pure bliss.
8. That sandwich and cup of tea your mother makes for you. How is it that mothers always make such delicious sandwiches while we really have the same cheese and tomatoes at home? It must be a gift you only receive when you become a mother, but for now, I still enjoy her lovingly prepared meals.
9. Maybe you've already done it, maybe it's still on your to-do list: booking a vacation. I get so intensely happy just looking at those distant, tropical places. I can already see myself lying on a sunbed with a cocktail in my hand and summer music in the background. Heaven.
10. I'm throwing it in there because it can't be long before this becomes reality: having to go outside in the morning with your winter coat only to leave it hanging at work because suddenly the weather is lovely in the afternoon. Okay, forgetting your coat is extremely annoying, but long live the spring sunshine!
