The 3 3 3 rule helps you combat panic attacks

Panic attacks: it's terrible, and also really scary. Unfortunately, I have quite a bit of experience with them and every time I think my last minutes have come. It's bizarre how your brain can drive you so crazy and make you feel such terror.

Fortunately, there is definitely something that can be done about it, but often I forget that in the moment. What helped against panic attacks again? I've read so much about this, but I can't remember when I feel one coming. Until I learned about the 3 3 3 rule, which is so simple that I can remember it even in that state.

The 3 3 3 rule is really very easy and consists of three steps:

- Name three things around you that you see
- Identify three sounds that you hear
- Move three limbs, or touch three limbs; for example, stretch your leg, touch your ankle or your ear, something like that

That’s it. People swear by this. Shifting the focus would be the trick to get your fear a bit under control. You distract your fear by having to do three times three things for yourself. It's really worth trying, because it helps me enormously.
