Birthday? Then you get these things for free
I prefer to skip my birthday every year because I don't really care much for it. I suffer quite a bit from the Peter Pan syndrome and would like to be 25 forever, but I also always get a bit of panic when I'm in the spotlight. It always feels like such an obligation: you really have to do something for your birthday, otherwise it feels — at least for me — so sad again.
But for my upcoming birthday, I have already made a plan: instead of giving out, I'm going to really cash in. You actually hit the jackpot when it's your birthday. Did you know, for example, that you can go to Walibi for free? No, right? Well, good news: I've listed all these free things for you. Just make sure to bring an ID so you can prove that it's really your birthday.
These things you get for free on your birthday
1. Tompouce at HEMA
This reminds me so much of the past because back then, I would get a tompouce from my mother at HEMA every Friday. Nowadays, I hardly ever eat them anymore, but I'm going to change that on my birthday. Just a heads up: to take advantage of this, you need to be a registered customer at HEMA; then you'll receive a voucher in your mailbox on your birthday.
2. Shower oil at Rituals
I'm definitely going to take advantage of this; I love Rituals (just like almost everyone I know) and use their shower oil almost daily. You do need to be a registered customer (so have an account), but the plus side is that you don't necessarily have to make a purchase on your actual birthday; you'll receive that free shower oil with your next purchase after your birthday.
3. Food at McDonald's
Just imagine: a whole day of free roller coasters at Walibi and then stopping by McDonald's on the way back to also receive your birthday gift there. At McDonald's, you get a free hamburger, McFlurry, or six chicken nuggets. All you have to do is have the app on your phone and have created an account.
4. Free product at Lidl
Here too, you need to have the app on your phone and have filled in your date of birth. But that's a small effort, especially if there's a free product waiting for you. This could be a chocolate bar or something else tasty.
5. Donut at Dunkin’ Donuts
You can see it coming: you also need to download the app for this. I'm totally fine with that if it means I get a free donut on my birthday, as that's really my guilty pleasure. I'm glad I don't live too close to a Dunkin‘ Donuts location, otherwise I would go there way too often, but when it's my birthday, I definitely deserve one.
6. Free entry to the sauna
At Thermen Bussloo, you can enter for free by showing your ID. So if getting older feels a bit heavy and you need some relaxation and peace: this seems like a very good place to spend your birthday.
