Vinted guide: this is how you find the gems

The people who know me a little well know that I am quite active on Vinted. So active, in fact, that I have now racked up almost three hundred reviews, with an average of five stars. Yes, sorry, I just wanted to brag a bit. How come I sell so much? I have made a deal with myself that after every new purchase I make, I have to throw an old item from my wardrobe onto the app. So I keep going, you get that.
But as easy as selling is, finding one specific item is anything but a piece of cake. Vinted has so much supply that you honestly can't see the forest for the trees. Still, I have managed to acquire a number of gems over the years: a brand new original shirt from Burberry for a few bucks, for example, or that one time when I suddenly found a Ganni blouse with the price tag still on it for fifty euros. Without the following tips, I wouldn't have succeeded, I can tell you.
1. Use filters
Filtering, filtering, and more filtering. That search bar is really of no use to you, nada, nothing. What one person calls a blouse, another labels as a shirt. In short: try not to rely on descriptions from others. If you're looking for a specific item, the filters are your best friend. Brand, color, size, price; make it as specific as possible.
2. Save as much as possible
Are you not looking for a specific item and just feel like browsing old-school? Vinted's algorithm is set up to advertise clothing to you that is similar to items you save in your favorites list. So if you see an item while scrolling that you think: I'm not going to buy this for the rest of my life, BUT it is my taste? Save it anyway. Before you know it, you'll be presented with ten similar items on your homepage.
3. Use ‘grandma terms’
You really have to rely on the old ladies on Vinted who want to get rid of their dusty wardrobe from thirty years ago as quickly as possible and give it away for a pittance. Forget trendy terms like ‘vintage leather jacket’ and instead search for ‘leather jacket’. Seriously, a whole new world opens up for you. The same goes for a vintage oversized blazer. You won't find it quickly for a meager price if you use the English term. With ‘black men's blazer’ you have a much better chance.
4. Try another language
Vinted is full of French and Italians, so all this clothing is also automatically described in another language. Are you searching high and low for a semi-affordable cashmere sweater? Then grab Google Translate and translate your search term into Italian, for example. You'll see: suddenly a paradise of cashmere sweaters. Often it's even cheaper if you buy it from a Spaniard or Italian, I've noticed.
