Research shows: this is what people are most afraid of on a first date

Confession: I have never been on a first ‘real’ date. And there are two reasons for that. My ex was one of my best friends for three years before our relationship, so a first date never really happened. It just happened naturally. Secondly, I am just a coward when it comes to love. Just the thought of having to meet someone romantically and possibly having to use my nonexistent flirting skills makes me feel extremely uncomfortable. Now, it helps that I am currently not looking, but when the time is right, I don't know how I will ever behave. My number one turn-off is discomfort, and that is somewhat part of a first date. Not to mention what to wear, what questions to ask the person across from you, and more importantly: where to go. A restaurant is immediately so in your face, but a date in a cinema is also not exactly my number one choice for the most romantic settings.
Fortunately, I am not the only one who gets stressed about this. In fact, I hardly know anyone in my surroundings who doesn't leave for a date with red spots on their neck. Because yes, besides the possibility of meeting the love of your life, it can also just go horribly wrong. But what are we actually most afraid of on such a first date?
Research has shown that both men and women unanimously agree on this: bad breath. Of all 80,000 people, 36 percent found bad breath to be the absolute worst thing that can happen to you. And honestly: that is really true. You can have the most handsome face, but if someone just had a plate of pasta pesto, you want to cut the conversation short as quickly as possible, right? So save yourself the rejection and avoid everything with traces of garlic and onion 24 hours in advance.
Another 25 percent found food stuck between the teeth to be something you want to avoid at all costs. Because how embarrassing is it to look in the mirror at home after a date and see the remnants of filet americain shining between your teeth? Furthermore, spilling food (15%), a wardrobe malfunction (14%), and drinking too much alcohol (10%) were on the list. Fortunately, you have some control over the last one.
Next time, just bring some extra Smints in your bag, and don't forget to wash your mouth with a tongue scraper beforehand. Most bacteria that can cause bad breath reside on your tongue. Just so you know.
