‘I really feel like having a Calzone pizza, no I don't want a regular one... So folded, just forget it. Oh, what a wonderful song that is — and I think every pizza lover knows it. And then you probably won't get it out of your head for the whole day. Sorry about that.

But if you are a real pizza lover, you also know how seriously this is taken. A Hawaiian pizza? Not a real pizza. Fries on pizza? That is allowed, but only in Naples. And those Neapolitan pizzas are a real concept; the base must be made without a rolling pin, the base is softer and wetter than, for example, a pizza from Rome (where they are allowed to be made with a rolling pin).

I myself am also absolutely not averse to the New York-style slices, although I find the Detroit Deep Dish pizzas a bit less appealing... Well, so many pizzas, so many options, but where do you find the very best in the world?

Fortunately, we don't have to test all the pizzerias in the world ourselves, because others are already doing that for us. It’s a tough job, but someone’s got to do it… So thanks for that, 50 Top Pizza. The name says it all: this site chooses every year the 50 best pizzerias in the world .

The winner this year is 10 Diego Vitagliano Pizzeria, which you can find in Naples. By the way, he has more locations, in Rome, Pozzuoli, and even in Doha (Qatar), but to make it clear: the one in Naples has been chosen as the ultimate number one.

Traditional Neapolitan pizzas are on the menu here, but owner Diego keeps up with the times: you can also order them gluten-free.

Last year, by the way, there was a different number one, namely I Masanielli. You can find this pizzeria in Caserta, a village above Naples. This year they were not awarded that first place, but I bet you will still be very pleased here.
