Netflix comes with new true crime docu

Waco American Apocalypse Netflix docu

My true crime-loving heart is extremely happy with this: finally, a good docu is coming to Netflix again. Especially if you found the docuseries Keep Sweet: Pray and Obey interesting, you will also be very happy with this. Just like me, because I have a weakness for cults — not that I want to join one, but I find it mega fascinating.

The latest docu is called Waco: American Apocalypse and it revolves around cult leader David Koresh. He was at the helm of the religious group Branch Davidians (how narcissistic do you want it: naming a religious movement after yourself). This group has its roots in the Seventh-day Adventist Church, which you can also find in the Netherlands.

According to Koresh, he was the last prophet and his followers had to listen to him. That all got a bit out of hand: the Branch Davidians stockpiled weapons, which piqued the interest of the FBI. They were not exactly thrilled about it.

It escalated to the point where Koresh and his followers resisted the police for 51 days in the town of Waco (Texas). A bizarre kind of mini-war was waged there for almost two months, and meanwhile, live coverage was continuously broadcast on TV. It literally ended with a bang: with a big explosion, that is.

Of course, all of this is extensively covered in the documentary, and of course, we want to see it. Just a little more patience, because Waco: American Apocalypse will be online on March 22.
