Wieke's facts about Gossip Girl

Every week you can find a new episode of the reboot of Gossip Girl on HBO Max, and of course, I'm totally into it. But to be honest: nothing is as fun as the original series. The reboot doesn't even come close to Serena, Blair, Dan, Chuck, and Nate. No matter how problematic the series was, the cast is exceptionally well put together. I can't see anyone else as Serena, or Blair, or Chuck. And that was almost the case. Didn't you know that yet? That's why here are ten surprising facts about our favorite series.

1. Jennifer Lawrence auditioned for the role of Serena van der Woodsen
And if we are to believe the rumors, she was really bummed that she didn't get the role back then. Someone other than Blake Lively as Serena? I can't imagine it.

2. No man wears a belt in the series
Sebastian Stan (Carter Baizen) told Variety in 2020; he was told that belts were really a no-go in terms of fashion.

3. Penn Badgley didn't think it was that great that he was Dan either
Understandable; I can still get mad about it. It still makes no sense.

4. Dorota got a spin-off
Whuut? I totally didn't know this. The series was called Chasing Dorota, and was canceled in 2009 after six episodes. In the meantime (and afterwards) she still played in Gossip Girl.

5. The author of the Gossip Girl book had one big problem with the series
And that was Vanessa. In the book, Vanessa wore a lot of black, had a shaved head, and was much tougher. In short, everything she wasn't in the series.

6. The plan was actually to make a movie of Gossip Girl and not a book
And that movie would have Lindsay Lohan as Blair Waldorf; can you imagine?

7. Ed Westwick and Chace Crawford lived together
At the beginning of the series, these roommates lived in the Chelsea neighborhood in New York. I can imagine worse roommates...

8. Constance Billard can be visited in New York
On Fifth Avenue, at the height of 103rd and 104th Street. Small detail: it's not a school, but The Museum of the City of New York. Small difference.

9. Mark January 26 in your calendar
That's Gossip Girl Day, because on this date the very last episode was aired.

10. Ed Westwick didn't audition for Chuck, but for the role of Nate
I'm so glad the creators put a stop to that. Someone else as Chuck? No, thanks.
