Bachelor talk: dating without depth

The ’second rose’ debacle also leaves its mark on the atmosphere in the women's house this episode. Beate is very upset about it. In particular, the fact that Paul didn't even choose her for his volleyball team has struck a sensitive chord with her. According to Beate, his fickleness is ‘unpleasant to work with’. Maybe someone should tell her that she is not Paul's supervisor?

Fortunately, dating can soon resume. The men each choose three ladies to take with them to a special activity. Paul says he hopes to be able to talk with the women. Unfortunately, Paul, these dates seem specifically chosen for the impossibility of having a conversation with each other. One group goes with Paul to brave the sea on jet skis, while the other has to learn paddleboarding from Rien. Fortunately, Rien is mainly focused on what outfits his ‘sweethearts’ will wear, as paddle skills are not something these ladies can learn.

When Paul finally gets off the jet ski, he takes the opportunity to hear what the girls find so appealing about him over a glass of champagne. Those are literally the only questions Paul asks them: ‘What do you think of me?’ and: ‘Do you want a family?’ At least we can't say he is demanding. Elke, on the other hand, just wants to live on a farm and preferably somewhere in Tuscany after her retirement: ‘nice and decent’, she thinks. I think I'm a bit jealous of Elke; if this is her epitome of bourgeoisie.

Rien is mainly busy bathing in this episode. A hot tub, a swimming pool, the sea; he proves that he really loves the water as much as he showed in his introduction video with bare buttocks. Fortunately, he is also seen in the water again in the next episode, as we see in the preview. I would love to offer him a razor to see if he might be a bit more boho chic instead of hobo chic without that scruffy beard. In that same preview, we also see Paul vigorously bent over, busy slicing about four hundred garlic cloves. Perhaps this is his tactic to avoid the temptation of kissing all the women. I can’t wait for the next one...
