After my recent break-up with my ex, I met Daan. Although I wasn't ready to date seriously yet, we decided to meet a few times. It's not very nice of me, but after a few decent dates, I let things fizzle out. I just didn't know how else to indicate that I wasn't really that interested anymore.

After a while, I saw Daan again in a café and decided to approach him to break the awkward moment. Nervously, I waved my hands, hoping that my gestures would convey my apologies for how things had gone between us. As I tried to gauge how he felt about me, the unthinkable happened: I bumped into the table where his beer was sitting. The glass tipped over and the contents landed right in his lap.
It felt like time stood still as I stood there, hands in the air and a look of pure astonishment on my face. Daan looked at me with wide eyes and I could do nothing but apologize while reaching for a napkin to minimize the damage.
The discomfort in the air was almost tangible, and I could have sunk through the ground. And who would have thought there could be so much in a glass of beer? He was wearing light pants, so it really looked like he had wet himself. I've truly never done anything so clumsy.
After some awkward mumbling and clumsily cleaned-up beer, I apologized again and decided to leave the café quickly. I never saw him again after that.
