Dating Disasters: ‘She was not amused that I would be traveling for six months’

In Dating Disasters vertellen anonieme lezers over hun gênantste, meest tenenkrommende en dramatische dates. Deze week: the most clingy date ever.
A few years ago, I was already talking to Mandy, a nice, outgoing girl I knew through mutual friends. I wasn't in a very serious phase of my life, but I did enjoy meeting new people. I quickly found out that she thought differently about that.
We had just taken our seats in the café where we had agreed to meet when she looked me straight in the eyes and asked, ‘Do you want children? If so, how many? And how do you see your future?’ It felt like an interrogation instead of a pleasant first meeting. In an attempt to keep the conversation light, I answered honestly, but I immediately noticed that my response didn't please her.
When I enthusiastically talked about my plans to travel for six months soon, her expression changed from curious to disappointed. She really seemed not amused by the idea that my future plans didn't immediately align with her expectations for a stable relationship and family, and that on a first date.
The awkward conversation about the future ended with an awkward silence that I couldn't break. It felt as if we had been together for years and had laid all our problems on the table, while in reality, it was our very first date.
It quickly became clear that we were on totally different pages, and the tension between us was palpable. As we struggled through the awkwardness of the evening, I realized that this date was probably not the start of a new love adventure. I decided to end the evening with three kisses and a ‘I'll talk to you’, but I already knew that we wouldn't see each other again. I never heard from her again.
