Dating Disasters: ‘My ears are still ringing from that man’

By
woman and man date at the bar

In Dating Disasters vertellen anonieme lezers over hun gênantste, meest tenenkrommende en dramatische dates. Deze week: the very present date.

From the moment I greeted my disaster date, he started talking without taking a breath. I had only spoken to him via a dating app and WhatsApp, so I didn't know how he sounded, let alone how much he could talk. It felt like he wanted to win a marathon of words, and I couldn't get a single word in.
While I tried my best to contribute to the conversation, he kept laughing at his own verbal waterfall and silly jokes, and I don't mean just a smile. It was more of a deafening laugh that drew the attention of the entire restaurant to us. It felt like we were on a stage and everyone in the restaurant was staring at us with a look of: can you please do this somewhere else?

Every attempt on my part to say a word was smothered by his uncontrollable laughter, and I could only nod and smile while he continued his story. The waiters regularly looked at us with irritation, probably hoping we would leave soon, while I looked back in panic, hoping they would come to my rescue.

Eventually, after what felt like an eternity, I decided enough was enough. I pretended to get a phone call that I really had to answer and made up an excuse to make a quick escape from the restaurant. Not very classy, but I'm not joking: my ears are still ringing from that man.
