This distant destination is the new Curaçao

For those who are inclined towards something exotic and prefer to find themselves as far outside European borders as possible, good news: spring is your time to shine to step straight onto the plane. Do you just have no clue where to go? For those in urgent need of some vitamin D but at the same time not wanting to sit in pouring rain for days (see: rainy season), the following countries in March or April are the best option. Now I'm leaving next week for half a year to Madrid, but otherwise, I would have known it for sure. Time to get out of here.
Thailand
I feel like Thailand has suddenly become the new Curaçao: everyone and their mother can be found there in 2024. At least, in the summer. Just in the spring, you have the chance to avoid all those Dutch people as much as possible. At the same time, you also avoid the rainy season, which starts around May, although this varies by region. And not entirely unimportant: tickets and accommodations are a lot cheaper due to the high season that has passed.
Costa Rica
Just the name alone gives me butterflies; I would love to go here. Costa Rica is the place where you can both sunbathe on the beach without a care in the world and walk over suspension bridges in the jungle: a perfect combination, if you ask me. Oh, and you don't have to worry about the weather either, because the dry season runs from December to April. In other words: sun guarantee.
Colombia
Perhaps I am a bit privileged since one of my best friends is half Colombian, from whom I only hear praise. I checked with her, and it's true: the best time to come is during the sunny months from December to March and from June to September, as that is the dry season. Want a nice beach holiday on the Caribbean coast? Then March is the month to go. Prefer to come for nature? Then it's best to come in April, as everything will start to bloom again. The rainy season has already begun, but don't let that stop you: it really doesn't rain continuously, just a few extra showers. Bring a poncho and don't complain.
Vietnam
For the travel enthusiasts among us, Vietnam is one to remember. The activities and must-dos are endless that I won't even start, or else I'll still be busy in half a year. That's also the reason why it is very touristy there. However, if you prefer to have the place to yourself? The high season runs until March, so if you want to avoid the crowds, it's best to come around April. Keep in mind that temperatures in the south of Vietnam can rise quite a bit.
South Africa
And if you're not in the mood for Latin America or Asia, there's always Africa. South Africa, to be a bit more specific. Although you can actually go to this place all year round, the months of March and April are just a bit nicer. Autumn has started there, which means that the temperatures are pleasantly mild (not stifling) and the high season is coming to an end. This way, you can spot the big five in peace. How nice is that.
